Russian drones and missiles struck a railway hub near Kyiv

Ukrainian national railway firm Ukrzaliznytsia stated on Saturday that a large-scale Russian drone and missile attack destroyed the depot and train carriages at a railway hub close to Kyiv. The nocturnal attack in the town of Fastiv did not result in any casualties, according to the railway.

In recent weeks, Russia has stepped up its attacks on Ukraine's infrastructure and energy sector, focusing on railway junctions and power plants.

"Russia continues to disregard any peace efforts and instead strikes critical civilian infrastructure, including our energy system and railways," stated Andrii Sybiha, the foreign minister of Ukraine, on X.

This demonstrates that choices to bolster Ukraine and increase pressure on Russia cannot be postponed. And particularly not in the name of a peace process," he continued.

On the messaging app Telegram, Ukrzaliznytsia announced that it had to cancel a number of suburban trains close to the capital and the northeastern Ukrainian city of Chernihiv.

Emergency services did not provide any further information, however they did report a fire and damage on the railway station and depot's property. An attack on infrastructure in the Chernihiv region was also mentioned in the report.

The Russian Defense Ministry claimed that in reaction to what it described as Ukrainian attacks on civilian targets, its forces carried out a "massive strike" overnight.

High-precision, long-range air and ground-based weaponry, such as Kinzhal hypersonic missiles and long-range drones, were utilized in the strike, according to the ministry.

The government further stated that it targeted Ukraine's military-industrial businesses, energy facilities that support their operations, and port infrastructure utilized for military objectives.
