Assam CM empowers 52,000 women with startup funds

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma led the distribution of entrepreneurship seed capital under the Chief Minister's Women Entrepreneurship Mission on Tuesday in three important constituencies: Karimganj North (Sribhumi), Katigorah, and Barkhola (Cachar).

This was a significant step toward rural self reliance. 52,469 women from these areas were given Rs 10,000 apiece to launch their businesses.

As part of a significant Rs 3,200 crore State investment to empower 32 lakh women to become "Lakhpati Baideus," the Chief Minister noted that this program has now reached over 19.4 lakh women across 80 constituencies.

Sarma emphasized the wise use of these monies while speaking to a large crowd at the DSA Playground in Sribhumi. In order to build collective corpuses for bigger projects, he urged women to pool their resources into Self Help Groups (SHGs).

"Our objective is straightforward: turn individual work into long-term business. He said, "Those who successfully use this initial seed capital will be eligible for additional phases of Rs 25,000 and Rs 50,000."

The Chief Minister also presented striking data from the ground, pointing out that thousands of "Lakhpati Baideus" women who make more than Rs 1 lakh a year are already found in Karimganj North, Katigorah, and Barkhola. He praised each constituency's highest earners as communal role models.

In addition to entrepreneurship, the chief minister declared that the Orunodoi scheme would be significantly expanded, with 2,000 additional recipients in each constituency scheduled to receive Rs 8,000 on February 20.

He also considered the future of welfare and education, announcing the start of the "Babu Scheme" for kids on February 1 and pledging Rs 10 crore to refurbish the DSA Playground.

Sarma also offered condolences to the departed family at the late veteran leader and former Union Minister Kabindra Purkayastha's home in Silchar during his visit.

The event was graced by Ministers Kaushik Rai and Krishnendu Paul, as well as Member of Parliament Parimal Suklabaidya, and MLAs Mihir Kanti Som, Dipayan Chakraborty, Nihar Ranjan Das, and Misbaul Islam Laskar.

Also present were Kuntalmoni Sharma Bordoloi, the Director of the Assam State Rural Livelihoods Mission, officials from the Panchayat and Rural Development Department, district administration representatives, distinguished guests, and women beneficiaries.
