Beginning his three day visit to his home state on Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in the Somnath Swabhiman Parv celebrations in Gujarat.
As part of the festivities being held from January 7-11 to commemorate the 1,000 years since Mahmud of Ghazni's first known attack on the Somnath temple, he took part in the Omkar Mantra chanting on the temple grounds and joined the ongoing 72 hour Akhand Omkar chanting.
He also saw the drone show. Modi is expected to speak to the people in Somnath on Sunday while leading the Shaurya Yatra, a symbolic procession held as part of the Parv. Modi will meet Friedrich Merz, the German chancellor, in Ahmedabad on Monday.
