US blocked potential ISIS New Year's Eve attack in North Carolina

On Friday, the U.S. Justice Department announced that it had foiled a North Carolina man's claimed plan to use knives and hammers to carry out an ISIS-inspired attack on New Year's Eve.

According to a Justice Department statement, Christan Sturdivant, 18, of Mint Hill, North Carolina, was accused with giving material support to a foreign terrorist group. Sturdivant has not yet pleaded to the accusations.

A handwritten letter titled "New Years Attack 2026," purportedly discussing plans to stab up to 20 victims and attack responding police officers, was discovered by FBI investigators investigating Sturdivant's house, according to the statement.
