Another 150 fully unreserved trains would be kept on hand to handle last minute rush, according to Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw's announcement on Tuesday.
10,000 special trains have been notified as of Tuesday, and more will be added progressively based on demand, he said.
During the holiday season last year, the national transporter ran 7,724 special trains with an additional 1.5 crore passengers.
According to Vaishnaw, 29 of 70 railway divisions have attained a timeliness rate of over 90%.
He stated that the first rake is prepared for rollout in the Vande Bharat sleeper train launch.
"But we will start operations after getting another rake, which will arrive by Oct 15," he stated. The likelihood of the first train travelling to Bihar, which is headed for elections, was not ruled out by officials.
