A special memorial to the late Assamese singer Zubeen Garg is being planned by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in advance of the ICC Women's World Cup 2025 opening match, which is set for September 30 in Guwahati.
Garg, a well known musician and cultural figure, died earlier this week after having a seizure while swimming on Singapore's Lazarus Island.On Sunday, thousands of fans gathered in Guwahati's streets to pay their last respects as his remains was returned to Assam.
From the airport to his home in Kalinga, his lifeless remains were transported in a procession that spanned 25 kilometres.
The board is organising a 40 minute homage in Garg's honour, according to BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia.
And as everyone is aware, Zubeen Garg, the Assamese youth icon, musical icon, and cultural icon, recently passed away.
Saikia stated on Sunday that "there is a great deal of grief and a tragic situation prevailing in Assam.
His mortal remains have arrived in Guwahati today and will be kept for one or two days for public homage."
