Dimoria’s 25 year old sandalwood tree to be used for Zubeen Garg’s Sonapur cremation

On Sunday, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited the proposed location for the samadhi of the late cultural icon Zubeen Garg in Sonapur's Hatimura.

In order to make sure that all arrangements are made with the renowned artist's respect, the Chief Minister met with officials and assessed the status of the work being done at the site.

Ministers Keshab Mahanta of Revenue and Disaster Management and Ranoj Pegu of Education accompanied him.

After visiting the site on Sunday, Pegu told reporters, "We had deliberations yesterday about Sonapur being a possible spot we have other options as well."

Although the state government has stated that the choice would be made at a Cabinet meeting set for 6 p.m. today, Hatimura near Sonapur has been the subject of much conjecture as the location for Zubeen's ultimate resting place.

"The site has been examined by officials. We all agree that this is the perfect location, and Zubeen's relatives brought up Sonapur as well. "We will bid the artist a dignified farewell," Mahanta stated.

People who live in the Dimoria neighbourhood, where Hatimura is located, expressed joy and sadness at the growth.

"We are grieving over Zubeen Garg's passing, but we find comfort in the fact that our Dimoria neighbourhood has been chosen as his Samadhi site," one local stated.

We would provide the sandalwood from the 25 year old sandalwood tree at Dimoria College. For us, this will be an honour. We will also provide the wood needed for the cremation from Daffodil.

It is anticipated that the discussion will cover requests for information on Zubeen's samadhi's location from a variety of sources, including his family and supporters.

In the meantime, Zubeen's footprints were kept at the Kahilipara home as a symbolic act of commemoration, guaranteeing that future generations will always have a lasting recollection of the cherished singer.

Given his unmatched contributions to Assam's cultural environment, the state government has promised that Zubeen will get full state honours.

A major step in deciding where hundreds of his admirers will congregate to honour him in the years to come will be the Cabinet's decision later this evening.
