A thorough set of traffic restrictions and detours has been issued by the Guwahati Traffic Police for the city's Durga Puja celebrations, which are set for September 28 October 3, 2025.
In addition to promoting easy traffic flow and the unrestricted movement of emergency vehicles like ambulances and fire tenders, the measures are intended to ensure the safety of the general public, especially women, children, the elderly, and those with disabilities. The Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Guwahati, has issued a notification stating that the entry of vehicles bringing commodities into the city will be tightly controlled.
During the Puja days, such vehicles will only be allowed entry between 4:00 am and 12:00 pm.
Important limits have been put in place in a number of places. For example, in Dispur, Dr. R.P. Road will only run in one direction from Ganesh Mandir to the Ganeshguri flyover, and entry from the sides of Zoo Road and Service Road is forbidden.
Parking will only be permitted on one side of Tripura Gali, and several roads in Basistha, such as Pir Azan Fakir Road and Bishnu Rabha Path, will only be open in one direction.
There will be no parking on A.T. Road, D.G. Road, and KRC Road, and entry to Bharalumukh will be restricted from Fatasil Chariali, Chabipool, and other important locations.
Light motor vehicles, three wheelers, and two wheelers would only be allowed to travel in one direction on routes like D.G. Road and Pandu Port Road in Jalukbari and Pandu.
In order to reduce traffic, Panbazar, Chandmari, Geetanagar, Noonmati, and Latasil will also have area-specific entry restrictions.
While inter district ASTC buses from Lower Assam will now travel to the ISBT via Jalukbari rather than Paltan bazar, city bus routes have been rerouted along alternate roads that connect important Puja venues.
To maintain efficient traffic management over the festival days, the Guwahati Traffic Police has asked the public to cooperate with the traffic arrangements, heed the diversions, and stay off of the forbidden roads.
