India offered a scathing reaction to Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's speech at the 80th United Nations General Assembly on Friday (local time), criticising his claim of "victory" in the May escalation and calling him of "absurd theatrics" and glorifying terrorism.
The Prime Minister of Pakistan attempted to depict the destruction of airbases in their country as a success, according to Petal Gahlot, First Secretary at India's Permanent Mission to the UN, who exercised India's right of reply in the general assembly. The first secretary dismantled his story and charged that Islamabad harboured terrorists and promoted "ludicrous narratives" to conceal its position as a terrorist hotspot.
The First Secretary also refuted Sharif's account of the May confrontation, pointing out that it wasn't until Indian forces destroyed many Pakistan bases on May 10 that Pakistan stopped threatening India.
Additionally, the Pakistani prime minister presented an absurd narrative regarding the recent clash with India.
On this subject, the record is unambiguous. Pakistan threatened to strike India again until May 9. However, its military personally begged us to stop the battle on May 10.
The demolition of several Pakistani airbases by Indian forces was the intervening event. Of course, the public has access to the images of such damage.
Pakistan is free to celebrate if, as the Prime Minister asserted, burned-out hangers and devastated runways represent triumph," she remarked.
Gahlot cited Pakistan's activities before the UN Security Council on April 25, 2025, where it defended "The Resistance Front," a Pakistan sponsored terrorist group that was responsible for the 26 person tourist murder in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22.
The Prime Minister of Pakistan once again praised terrorism, which is so fundamental to their foreign strategy, in the morning's ridiculous theatrics in front of this Assembly.
