According to Fox News Digital, a “deranged leftist” violently attacked a Trump administration official inside the UN on Thursday afternoon during the UN General Assembly.
In support of HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and the department's leadership team at UNGA, the official, who works in international relations for the Department of Health and Human Services, was in New York.White House Deputy Press Secretary Anna Kelly told Fox News Digital, "A deranged leftist at the UN somehow got past multiple layers of security and followed an HHS official into a bathroom, recorded, physically assaulted and verbally accosted."
"I'm glad the official is safe and the madman was taken into custody, but this is just one of the UN's troubling and dangerous mistakes following their sabotage of President Trump both before and during his speech."
Kelly stated that "how this violent protester was admitted into a major national security event" will be the subject of an investigation by the US Secret Service.
The person has been charged with assault, aggravated harassment, attempted assault, and criminal possession of a firearm, a source with knowledge of the case told Fox News Digital.
The individual is scheduled to appear in court on November 13 after being released from detention on Friday night.
A US UN spokeswoman told Fox News Digital, "We are indignant that a member of the US delegation was physically attacked inside UN Headquarters on the afternoon of September 25."
"This attack needs to be dealt with quickly, and there must be repercussions." The UN "recognises that it has lost its way," the official continued, and referred to the episode as "unacceptable."
The official told Fox News Digital that she was in a hallway when a lady threw a bright light in her face and started shouting anti Palestinian and disparaging statements.
It was really confusing. It continued when I stepped back and regained my balance. I became aware of what was going on. I became aware that the light was actually a recording device and that I was being yelled at.
