Muzaffarpur 2025 Election BJP Congress rivalry NDA leads

The Muzaffarpur Assembly constituency, which is situated in the political center of north Bihar, has continued to be a crucial battleground between the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), reflecting the larger political currents influencing the state.

Muzaffarpur, a general seat, has seen some of the most intense election contests in recent memory, with both parties alternately winning.

Congress candidate Bijendra Chaudhary defeated BJP candidate Suresh Kumar Sharma in the 2020 Assembly elections by a slim margin of 6,326 votes, with 81,871 votes to Sharma's 75,545.

There were 1,70,011 valid votes cast in the constituency out of 3,22,538 registered voters. With 95,594 votes to JD(U)'s Bijendra Chaudhary's 65,855, Sharma had won the seat for the BJP in 2015 by a margin of 29,739.

In 2010, Suresh Kumar Sharma defeated Mohammad Jamal of the LJP by 46,439 votes, securing a resounding victory for the BJP. Out of 1,21,797 valid votes, he received 72,301, while Jamal received 25,862.

Sharma and Chaudhary's alternating outcomes highlight Muzaffarpur's changing political landscape, which is influenced by both local dynamics and changing alliance equations in north Bihar.

The BJP's dominance in the area was further demonstrated by the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The BJP's Raj Bhushan Choudhary defeated Congress contender Ajay Nishad by a resounding 2,34,927 votes to win the Muzaffarpur parliamentary seat.

With a total turnout of 66.91 percent for both phases combined, voter turnout in Bihar has achieved unprecedented heights in the 2025 elections.

The female turnout was much higher at 71.6% compared to the male turnout of 62.8%. The BJP and Congress are still fighting for control of Muzaffarpur, one of Bihar's most politically competitive seats, as counting day draws near.
