PM Modi embarks on two-day visit to Bhutan to strengthen friendships

 


Tuesday marked the start of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's two day state visit to Thimphu, Bhutan. He will participate in Jigme Singye Wangchuck, the fourth king, celebrating his 70th birthday.

PM Modi will visit Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay and his father, the fourth monarch of Bhutan, Jigme Khesar Namgyal Wangchuck.

He remarked, "I am confident that my visit will further deepen our bonds of friendship and strengthen our efforts towards shared progress and prosperity," prior to leaving.

"It would be my honour to join the people of Bhutan as they mark the 70th birth anniversary of His Majesty the Fourth King," said Prime Minister Modi.

He will take part in the Global Peace Prayer Festival, which is being hosted by the Bhutanese royal government, while he is there.

According to him, the launch of the Punatsangchhu-II hydropower project will be another significant event in the energy collaboration.

"Our partnership is a key pillar of our Neighbourhood First Policy and a model for exemplary friendly relations between neighbouring countries," Prime Minister Modi stated.

He later added, "Leaving for Bhutan, where I will attend various programs," in a post on X. This visit coincides with Bhutan commemorating His Majesty the Fourth King's 70th birthday.

"I will be holding talks with His Majesty the King of Bhutan, His Majesty the Fourth King and Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay," he wrote.
