Trump administration strikes $75 million deal with Northwestern University to restore funding

The administration of US President Donald Trump announced on Friday that it has reached a deal with Northwestern University to reinstate hundreds of millions of dollars in research funding and cease ongoing inquiries into the institution.

According to a statement from the U.S. Justice Department, the Chicago area university will pay $75 million to the U.S. government as part of the agreement.

After Republicans in the House of Representatives accused Northwestern of not doing enough to combat antisemitism, especially during student demonstrations against the Gaza conflict, the Trump administration froze roughly $800 million in research funding for the university in April.
