Those Who Brought You To Power Must Always Come First: PM Modi’s Strong Message To Assam MPs

During a review meeting in Delhi on Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MPs from Assam a firm message of responsibility and public service.

Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, MoS Pabitra Margherita, and Assam BJP president Dilip Saikia attended the discussion, which was centered on constituency outreach, political readiness, and development activities in front of the 2026 Assembly elections.

According to reports, the Prime Minister sought detailed details on ongoing state and national projects in Assam and heard from MPs about their priorities on the ground.

Modi reaffirmed that the Northeast has continued to be a key component of his government's development program and stated that tangible advancements must result in increased public confidence.

During the meeting, Modi is reported to have provided a stern message to the MPs: “Those who brought them to office must always come first."

Public representatives, he added, are not above people, and MPs must maintain citizens’ interests at the core of their work. He asked them to provide maximum coverage of government schemes and to be accessible to their constituents.

The Prime Minister specifically advised the group's first-time MPs to be well-prepared for Parliament sessions and to keep up an active social media presence in order to effectively express government ideas.

The conference is especially important because Assam will be holding elections in early 2026. The BJP, which first formed government in the state in 2016 under Sarbananda Sonowal, held power in 2021 with Himanta Biswa Sarma taking over as the Chief Minister.

Modi's comments are seen as an order to increase grassroots involvement and enforce organizational discipline as the party seeks a third term in a row.
