The Congress started the process of choosing candidates for the next assembly elections in several states on Saturday by announcing screening committees.
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, a prominent member of the Congress, has been nominated by the party to serve as the chair of a group that would select possible candidates for the Assam assembly election.
Since resigning from her position as Uttar Pradesh's AICC general secretary, the Wayanad Lok Sabha MP has never been given an organizational job.
The screening committees for Kerala, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry were also notified by the party on Saturday. The screening committee for Assam will be led by Priyanka Gandhi, with Lok Sabha MP Saptagiri Ulaka and Rajya Sabha MP Imran Masood among its members.
After 15 years of uninterrupted dominance since 2001, the Congress lost power to the BJP in Assam in 2016. This action is perceived as the party's attempt to return.
