As India greeted the year 2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wished everyone a happy New Year and prayed "for peace, good health and happiness in society" on Thursday.
The PM shared a post on X that said, "Happy 2026 to all of you! I hope the upcoming year brings you health and wealth, as well as success and fulfillment in whatever you do."
"Praying for peace and happiness in our society," the prime minister continued. PM Modi posted a video and wrote, "Very warm wishes to all of you for 2026," in a different post.
We hope that everyone has new aspirations, goals, and self-assurance this year. May it encourage everyone to pursue their goals in life.
President Droupadi Murmu also sent out New Year's greetings earlier, characterizing the occasion as a time of renewed vigor and new beginnings.
"May the year 2026 bring peace, happiness and prosperity into our lives and infuse new energy to build a stronger and more prosperous India," she declared.
On Thursday night, India's cities were illuminated with fireworks, cultural events, live music, and themed décor as the nation celebrated the start of the New Year. Huge numbers flocked to public areas to cheerfully and enthusiastically ring in 2026.
